Owaisi's AIMIM to ally with AIADMK in Tamil Nadu

Hyderabad: In Tamil Nadu, the AIMIM announced its support to Edappadi K Palaniswami's AIADMK for the Lok Sabha polls on Saturday. Elections in Tamil Nadu are scheduled for April 19, PTI reported.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said that the alliance will be continued for the Assembly elections in the state, too, which are due only in 2026.

Owaisi wrote on X, "AIADMK has refused to ally with BJP and has committed to never allying with it in the future. It has also assured that it will oppose CAA, NPR & NRC. Therefore, AIMIM extends its support to AIADMK in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Our alliance will also continue for the Assembly elections."

For the 2021 Assembly elections in the state, AIMIM had allied with TTV Dhinakaran's Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), when AIADMK was part of BJP-led NDA. AIMIM had contested 3 seats that year.

Now AMMK is with the BJP-led alliance in the state, which has 39 Lok Sabha seats.

Meanwhile, in the state, posters featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the phrase' Ji Pay' appeared in several places soon after he campaigned for the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, calling upon Tamilians to root out the ruling DMK. The posters also offer details of the alleged scam over the electoral bonds upon scanning the QR code printed on the posters. Upon scanning, a link would lead to a video that delves into various controversies surrounding the Modi administration, including the controversial electoral bond scheme.

While the origin of these posters remains shrouded in mystery, conjecture has naturally turned to the DMK, given their criticism of Modi's governance and their persistent accusations regarding electoral malpractice. However, as of yet, no political entity or individual has claimed responsibility for the campaign.
