Owaisi invokes Palestine in solidarity with war-torn people during oath in Parliament

Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the newly re-elected Member of Parliament for Hyderabad concluded his oath by invoking Palestine, along with slogans such as Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, and Takbir, in solidarity with the war-torn people of Palestine.

Following the conclusion of his oath in Urdu, Owaisi expressed several slogans including 'Jai Bhim,' 'Jai Meem,' 'Jai Telangana,' 'Jai Palestine,' 'Takbir,' and 'Allah Hu Akbar.' His declaration, especially the 'Jai Palestine' remark, underscores his strong support for the Palestinian people who are enduring devastation amid the ongoing Israeli conflict in Gaza.

Owaisi, a well-known advocate for Palestinian rights, has frequently condemned Israel's actions in Gaza and urged India to take a firm stance against Israeli policies. In February, during a public gathering in Hyderabad, he expressed solidarity with Palestine and called for India's support for South Africa’s case against Israel in the International Court of Justice.

He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish a humanitarian corridor into Gaza, emphasizing its critical importance to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In his post-oath message on social media, Owaisi reaffirmed his commitment to representing marginalized communities in India, marking his fifth term as a Member of Parliament. His recent electoral victory saw him defeating BJP candidate Madhavi Latha in Hyderabad during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The incident occurred on the second day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, where the oath-taking of newly elected members continued. Prominent figures sworn in included former Union minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane, Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Arvind Sawant of the Shiv Sena (UBT), and Shrikant Shinde of the Shiv Sena. Notably, Sule sought blessings from BJP MP and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari after her oath.

The pro-tem speaker of the Lok Sabha, Bhartruhari Mahtab, reminded members to adhere strictly to the prescribed oath, discouraging deviations and personal additions. Despite this, several MPs added slogans like "Jai Hind," "Jai Maharashtra," "Jai Bhim," and "Jai Shivaji" following their oaths.

The parliamentary session saw active participation from various high-profile political leaders, including Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Pralhad Joshi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, DMK's T. R. Baalu, TMC's Mahua Moitra, and Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The proceedings began with Gowaal Kagada Padavi, a Congress member from Nandurbar, taking the first oath of the day, followed by other members primarily from Maharashtra, swearing in either Marathi, English, or Hindi.
