Opposition to boycott LS proceedings over Adhir Chowdhury’s suspension

New Delhi: Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Friday announced the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)’s decision to boycott Lok Sabha proceedings against the suspension of MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

The opposition MPs also decided not to attend the customary tea to be hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the conclusion of the Monsoon session of Parliament on Friday.

The protest came in the wake of Chowdhury’s suspension for making objectionable comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech in the no-confidence discussion, and his suspension will be in place till the report of the privileges committee comes.

The Lower House through a voice vote passed the resolution to suspend Chowdhury, after Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi said in the House that Chowdhury has often made baseless allegations and remarks against leaders from the ruling party including the prime minister and other cabinet ministers.
