New Delhi: Opposition MPs, led by Congress, staged a noisy protest in the Parliament complex on Wednesday against the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, demanding its immediate withdrawal.
Hoisting a large banner reading "Stop Targeting NGOs and Institutions," the group raised anti-government slogans. Participants included Congress MPs, SP's Dimple Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav, IUML's ET Mohammad Basheer, NCP(SP)'s Supriya Sule, and RSP's NK Premchandran.
The Congress had warned on Tuesday that the BJP aimed to "bulldoze" the "draconian and unconstitutional" bill through Parliament. Party general secretary K C Venugopal urged MPs to rush to Delhi for the session.
Introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25, the bill seeks to boost transparency in foreign funds and crack down on their misuse for forced religious conversions, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said.
On Tuesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju defended the amendments, insisting they target threats to national security—not religious groups—and accused Congress and Left parties of peddling "false, fabricated" claims.
