Mumbai: A helium cylinder explosion on Sunday evening in Latur’s Tavraja colony in Maharashtra killed one person and injured 11 children.

The incident sparked panic in the densely populated area. However, the police personnel requested people in the area not to fall prey to rumours.

According to preliminary reports, a man selling helium-filled balloons died, and 11 children were injured. Superintendent of Police Somay Munde said that two youngsters are suspected to be critically injured, reports Times of India.

The incident occurred when the balloon seller arrived in the area, and a group of children gathered around him.

The gas cylinder he had on his two-wheeler suddenly exploded, causing severe injuries to the man and damage to his vehicle. The surrounding children also suffered injuries of varying degrees.

The local residents rushed the injured individuals to the government medical college and hospital.

The hospital authorities declared the balloon seller as "brought dead,". His identity is yet to be verified.
