On Foundation Day, Utt'knd people write Centre letters with blood

Dehradun: While Uttarakhand celebrates Uttarakhand Diwas, its 24th foundation day, on Saturday, a group of its residents sent letters written in blood to top Constitutional offices of the country, creating alarm and panic, IANS reported.

The said residents of Uttarakhand- also known as Devabhoomi (land of gods) because of its several Hindu pilgrimage spots- wrote such letters to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Governor of the state and the Supreme Court. These residents are members of the Gevad Vikas Sangharsh Samiti in the Chaukhutiya development block.

The motive behind these letters, which have been handed over to the District Magistrate of Almora, was to draw the administration's attention towards the issues the people face in the state in the fields of education, roads, medical facilities, fire stations, Kendriya Vidyalayas, lack of college and more. All these problems have been mentioned in the letter.

The representatives said that despite Devbhoomi attaining ‘adulthood’ upon completion of its 24 years of existence, it remains burdened with the mentioned fundamental problems.

Hundreds of people, including men and women, also assembled at the Krantiveer Chowk with placards in their hands and raised slogans.

Gevad Vikas Sangharsh Committee President Gajendra Singh Negi, revealing the reason behind letters in blood, said: “We have written this because we have met the Chief Minister five times in the last one and a half years. During this time, we mentioned all of Gevad's problems to him. We have demanded to give the status of degree colleges to all the colleges.”

“We have met the Chief Minister regarding 30 issues, calling for urgent attention. But, every time, we found assurances and no headway. We thought that if we write such letters, then perhaps our problems would be heard,” he added.
