New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut said that people should normalize an "obsessive work culture" as India is a developing nation, NDTV reported.
Ranaut, who won the Lok Sabha polls from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, was reacting to PM Modi’s address to his team after taking oath.
The Prime Minister is reported to have told his cabinet members that "Together we have just one goal - Nation First. Just one intention - 2047 Viksit Bharat.’
He added that ‘I have said this publically, my each and every moment is for the country. I have also promised the country - 24x7 for 2047.’
Calling for obsessive work culture, Kangana Ranaut asked people not to wait for weekends and ‘crib about Mondays memes’.
"That's all western brainwashing we are not a developed nation yet we can't afford to be bored and lazy at all," she was quoted as saying.
Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, who had previously called for similar change in work culture by implementing 70 hours work a week, had stirred up mixed responses on social media.
Comparing India’s work hours with that of Japan, the Infosys founder said in October: ‘India's work productivity is one of the lowest in the world. Unless we improve our work productivity, unless we reduce corruption in the government at some level, because we have been reading, I don't know the truth of it, unless we reduce the delays in our bureaucracy in taking this decision, we will not be able to compete with those countries that have made tremendous progress.’
Joining the debate Nilesh Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, said that the 12-hour workday culture is common in China, Korea, and Japan.
