Janata Dal (United) leader Khalid Anwar has made a departure from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) official position on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), stating that the legislation will not be implemented in Bihar, despite JD(U)'s alliance with the BJP within the ruling NDA coalition in the state.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Anwar emphasized that JD(U) chief and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had firmly declared that the CAA would not be enforced in Bihar. "The CAA will not find ground in Bihar.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has unequivocally asserted that all 13 crore residents in the state are Biharis, obviating the necessity for CAA, NRC (National Register of Citizens), or NPR (National Population Register) here.
As long as Nitish-ji remains in power, there is no cause for concern regarding the CAA," Anwar affirmed during a press conference in Motihari.
To address any confusion surrounding the recent notification of rules for the CAA's implementation, the JD(U) leader clarified that the law aimed to grant permanent residency to religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh residing in the country as refugees, without revoking anyone's citizenship.
