NIA raids seven locations linked to PFI in Rajasthan

Jaipur: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided seven locations in Rajasthan in connection with the activities of the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI).

Three places in Kota and one each in Sawai Madhopur, Bhilwara, Bhundi, and Jaipur were searched by the central agency. Digital devices, air-gun, sharp weapons, and incriminating documents were seized during the search on Saturday. Both commercial and residential premises were among the suspected locations.

An NIA spokesperson told Hindustan Times that the case is related to information received from reliable sources that Sadiq Sarraf, a resident of Baran district in Rajasthan, and Mohammed Asif from Kota, of Popular Front of India (PFI) along with office bearers, members and cadres of the PFI are indulging in unlawful activities.

The agency took up the case on September 19, a week before the outfit was banned by the government under UAPA on September 28. The NIA and Enforcement Directorate (ED) have been leading a national crackdown on the outfit ever since. This includes arrests and recovery of purported incriminating documents from offices and residences of people associated with the organisation.

The MHA notification has alleged that PFI is fuelling radicalisation and was involved in terror funding. The Centre also alleged that the outfit shows "sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority of the country" and poses a major threat to internal security.
