Never met a PM descends so low for votes: ex-BJP leader flays Modi

New Delhi: Ex-Union minister and former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that he had never before met a prime minister who descended so low to get votes, The Free Press Journal reported.

Sinha took it to the X and wrote, "I have watched Indian Prime Ministers since Nehru's time and worked closely with two. Never before have I seen a PM descend so low as the present one to get votes."

Being a BJP leader, Sinha had managed key portfolios in the Union government under BJP prime ministers Chandra Shekhar and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He quit the BJP in 2018, pointing out the "party's condition" and saying, "Democracy in India is in great danger".

Sinha joined Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress in 2021 after efforts made by the West Bengal Chief Minister. He was selected as the Combined Opposition Parties' presidential candidate in 2022 but couldn't defeat NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu in the poll.

Sinha makes the statement against Modi amid opposition clamours demanding action against hate speech and violation of the election Model Code of Conduct by the PM.

The Free Press Journal reports that PM Modi's controversial problematic statements against Congress and the Muslim community, bringing false claims over Congress' election manifesto, have significantly intensified the electoral environment in the country.

When the opposition parties came down over the PM and condemned his statements, social media users severely criticized them, describing them as a deliberate intent to incite hatred between communities.
