NEP: BHU offers masters in Hindu studies

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi has started a new postgraduate course in Hindu Studies- an interdisciplinary programme- as per the National Education Policy 2020. This course is the first of its kind to be offered by a university in the country. The first batch has a total of 45 students including one foreign student.

The course would be offered by Bharat Adhyayan Kendra, in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy and Religion, Department of Sanskrit and Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, under the faculty of Arts. Professor VK Shukla, a senior rector, said that the course will make the world aware of many unknown aspects of Hindu Dharma. It would also help take the teachings of Hinduism to more people, he added.

The course is important for building 'sanatan' life values, said Centenary Chair Professor Rakesh Upadhyaya.
