Mystery surrounds death of bank employee couple, their two children in Malappuram

Malappuram: A sense of shock and grief engulfed the small town of Munduparamba in Kerala's Malappuram district as news of a devastating incident unfolded. On Thursday, July 6, the lifeless bodies of four family members were discovered in their rented house, leaving the community in mourning and authorities searching for answers.

The victims were identified as Sabeesh Babu (37), an employee at a private bank, his wife Sheena (36), a professional working in a public sector bank in Kannur, and their two young sons, Harigovind (6) and Sreevardhan (2). However, the circumstances surrounding their deaths remained shrouded in mystery.

The tragedy first came to light when concerned relatives, unable to reach the couple via phone for an extended period, alerted the local authorities. As investigations began, the police discovered a vital piece of information: both children had allegedly been diagnosed with a rare condition known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), which progressively weakens the muscles.

However, a senior police official said that the exact cause of death had yet to be determined. The incident happened when Sheena, the mother, had got a transfer with a promotion to the Kannur district. Hailing from Kozhikode's Kuttikkattoor, they had resided in Malappuram for their job purposes.

The bodies were transported to the Manjeri Medical College hospital on Thursday night for postmortem procedures, which concluded on July 7 and Friday. The grief-stricken remains of the family will be taken to their hometown, Kuttikkattoor, to be laid to rest amidst the sombre atmosphere of their beloved community.
