'My middle finger salutation to Bobde'; Comedian Kunal Kamra shoot harsh sarcasm at the CJI

The Center has asked Twitter for an explanation as to why no action is being taken against Kunal's tweets.

New Delhi: Comedian Kunal Kamra slams Supreme Court Chief Justice SA Bobde with his harsh criticism. Pointing to two fingers during a flight, Kunal Kamra tweeted, "One of these two fingers is for CJI Aravind Bobde... Ok, let me not confuse you, it's the middle one.'

During and after the apex court's proceedings to decide on granting interim bail to Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami, Kamra posted a series of tweets that were critical of judges and the judiciary. One of these tweets show a picture of the Supreme Court building swathed in saffron colour with the ruling BJP flag flying atop it instead of the Tricolour. Kunal tweeted a comment under that the court is the 'supreme joke' in the country.

Meanwhile, the Center has asked Twitter for an explanation as to why it is not taking action against Kunal's tweets. The parliamentary panel investigating the incident asked Twitter why the 'criminal tweets' made by Kunal Kamra against the Supreme Court were not removed from Twitter.

BJP MP and the parliamentary committee on Data Protection Bill chief, Meenakshi Lekhi, according to news agency PTI, has sought a reply from Twitter over Kamra's tweets within a week. Congress leader Vivek Tanka had come out in support of the MP.

In the meantime, Kunal Kamra issued a statement saying he does not intend to retract his tweets that were critical of the Supreme Court or apologise for them. He also suggested the court that the time allotted to his contempt petition hearing should be allotted to other matters such as petitions against demonetisation, the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status and the petition regarding the legality of election bonds.
