New Delhi: The Muslims of Mavi Meera village falling under Daurala police station area in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh are forced to flee due to intolorable harassment by members of the dominant caste in the village. Several Muslims have put 'For Sale' posters in front of their houses, an India Tomorrow report said.
According to the report, about 40 house owners have decided to leave their native place.
Shamshad of the village, told India Tomorrow, "Gujjars of the village keep harassing us on small matters. When the matter goes to the police station, instead of filing a report, they settle the matter by sitting, but later start harassing them again. We are very upset. "
Recently, a Gujjar youth from the village bought articles worth of 20 rupees from a Muslim shopkeeper of the village and refused to pay. There was a fight between the two over it and the issue turned worser.
Shamshad of Mavi Meera village told that, "Gujjars broke into the house of a Muslim shopkeeper and opened fire and also torched the shop. However, the administration has not shown any seriousness in the matter. "
Talking about the incident, the SHO of Daurala police station said, "There was a mild clash between the two parties over a cigarette which was exaggerated. There is no case of neglect. "
SHO Kiranpal Singh said, "In the dispute, stones were pelted from both sides although no one was injured in the clash. It was a minor dispute. "
The Muslims of the village complain that there was no remedial action on the part of administration despite their demands put to authorities from district to state level.
Shamshad said, "There was a graveyard case in the village in 2013 which was resolved, but since then the Muslims of the village are often harassed under various pretexts."
He said that there was a scuffle over money transactions in the past, after which the Gujjars broke into the Muslim's house and opened fire. The police did not look into the matter.
"In Meerut, we tried to register complaints with the police at three places. However, not a single case was registered. Every time the police refused to file a report saying that petty things keep happen in the village. However, bullets have also been fired in the village by Gujjars" a villager was quoted as saying by India Tomorrow.
The members of the Muslim community are fed up with the conflicts. The administration does not listen to their complaints and the village does not have a peaceful atmosphere which force several natives of the village to flee.
