Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau's (NCB) Mumbai zonal unit seized 11,300 kg of drugs from different parts of the country in 2022. They also arrested 58 people in nine months.
An official told PTI that the quantity of drugs found is significantly higher than the previous year. And 46 cases have been registered involving people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Goa among other states.
In 2021, the federal anti-drug agency seized 1,780 kg of drugs. 119 cases were registered and 240 people were arrested.
Large quantities of cocaine, mephedrone, ganja, heroin, and LSD are among the seized contraband. The official further said black cocaine is the in-demand drug which is sold at Rs 20,000 per gram. It is the most expensive narcotic substance. It is popular among high society and the department is focusing on its manufacturers and suppliers. And Mephedrone is sold at Rs 3,000 per gram.
However, the collective worth of the seized drugs was not revealed by the NCB official.
Four days ago, NCB seized 60 kg of high-quality mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 120 crore in Mumbai. Along with the Naval Intelligence Unit in Gujarat's Jamnagar, NCB busted a syndicate and apprehended six people.
