Mumbai: A division bench of Mumbai High Court on Friday ordered to immediately release from jail Professor G N Saibaba who is alleged to have links to Maoists.
A trial court in 2017 convicted the Delhi University professor sentencing him to life imprisonment, according to The Indian Express.
Now Justices Rohit Deo and Anil Pansare allowed the appeal filed by Saibaba challenging a 2017 order of the trial court.
The wheelchair-bound professor is currently lodged at the Nagpur central prison.
The division bench also acquitted five other convicts in the case allowing their appeal.
The convicts will be released as per the court's direction unless they are accused in any other case, according to the report.
