Mumbai: The main accused in the Mumbai's BMW hit-and-run case admitted during interrogation that he is a habitual drinker, NDTV reported citing police sources.
The 24-year-old’s reckless driving claimed the life of 45-year-old woman Kaveri Nakhwa on July 6 alongside injuring her husband, Pradip Nakhwa.
Mihir Shah, who was allegedly driving the BMW, after partying at a Juhu bar with friends for hours, hit the couple riding their two-wheeler at 5.30 am on Sunday.
CCTV footage showed that Nakhwa was dragged for 1.5 km after the collision. Shah later switched seats with his driver Bidawat, pulled the woman's body out from under the car, and drove away leaving the body on the road.
Mihir Shah revealed to the police interrogation that she had shaved his beard and cut his hair at barber shop in Virar to mislead the police.
It is reported that the police recorded the statement of the barber who had cut Mihir's hair.
Shah is the son of politician Rajesh Shah, a member of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction.
After Shah evaded arrest, multiple teams formed by the police tracked him down to an apartment in Virar nearly 65 km from Mumbai.
The police traced him when one of his friends turned on his phone for 15 minutes.
A dozen people including Shah's parents and two sisters are in custody.
