Hyderabad: The All India Bazm-e-Rehmat-e-Alam has announced the Rehmat-e-Alam Peace Award 2026 for Deepak Kumar, popularly known as Muhammad Deepak, in recognition of his efforts to promote communal harmony and spread the message of peace and brotherhood.
The award will be presented during programmes organised in connection with Milad-un-Nabi, commemorating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, Siasat Daily reported.
A resident of Kotdwar in Uttarakhand, Deepak gained widespread attention after he stood in support of an elderly Muslim shopkeeper during a tense situation. His gesture of solidarity, in which he identified himself as “Muhammad Deepak”, was widely seen as a symbol of communal unity and mutual respect.
The organisers said the award recognises individuals who contribute to social harmony, promote mutual understanding among communities and uphold humanitarian values. They said Deepak’s actions reflected compassion and peaceful coexistence, principles they described as central to the teachings of Islam and the broader values of humanity.
The award forms part of the Milad-un-Nabi programmes aimed at highlighting the ideals of peace, brotherhood and communal harmony.
