A 70-year-old muezzin, Mohammed Sajjad Ali, was killed in a brutal attack while returning from prayer on Tuesday, December 24. The incident, which occurred in a village in Nawada district, has intensified communal tensions in the region and sparked calls for justice, Siasat reported.
Ali, who served as the azan caller at a local mosque, was reportedly attacked with an iron rod during a violent altercation. The attack also left his companion severely injured, and he is currently undergoing treatment.
The violence is believed to have erupted following a dispute between two groups over the construction of a Panchayat Government Bhawan. As tensions escalated, the conflict reportedly turned aggressive, culminating in the fatal attack on Ali and his companion.
In response to the incident, the local police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of nine suspects, including individuals identified as Dilip Kumar and Rahul Kumar Paswan. Authorities are examining the possible role of communal discord as a motive behind the aggression.
The superintendent of police in Nawada has assured the public of a thorough investigation, pledging that those responsible for the attack will face legal consequences.
The incident has left the community on edge, with heightened concerns over communal harmony. Police have been deployed in the area to maintain order as the investigation continues.
