Madhya Pradesh: Miyazaki is one of the most expensive fruits in the world, which costs around Rs 2.70 lakh per kg. Being one of the rarest breeds, those who grow it have to make stringent security measures, NDTV reported.
Chairman of RPG Group conglomerate Harsh Goenka, on Sunday, tweeted photographs of the world's most expensive mango.
"The unusual ruby-coloured Japanese breed of mango, Miyazaki, is said to be the world's costliest mango, sold at ₹ 2.7 lakh per kg. Parihar, a farmer in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has hired three security guards and 6 dogs to secure the two trees," he said in the tweet.
The breed is often referred to as "Eggs of sunshine" due to their shape and colour.
The farmer received the sapling of the world's expensive mango during a train journey. Little did he know that the fruit from the sapling would be the most expensive available in town.
The mango that weighs around 350 grams is rich in antioxidants, beta-carotene, and folic acid. Japan's climate, which comprises warm weather, long hours of sunlight, and rainfall, makes it most suitable for the growth of the fruit. Okinawa stands first in the production volume of the fruit.
