Mother of Nedumbassery car crash accused expresses solidarity with victims’ families
Nooha, the mother of Suhail, the main accused in the Mini Cooper crash that killed three young people in Ernakulam, has expressed condolences to the victims’ families and pledged her family’s support.
In a video posted on Sunday on the Instagram page of Iha Design, which she owns, Nooha said the loss of a child was an unimaginable pain and that she understood the grief of the bereaved families.
“When we raise our children with so much love, watch them grow up and look forward to their dreams and future, losing them midway is a pain beyond what we can even imagine. I understand that,” she said.
“As a mother and as a member of society, I want to express my support for the family of the three youngsters. My family and I stand by them. As long as we are here, we will continue to support that family,” she added.
Nooha called for a fair investigation and urged people to respect her family’s privacy, saying she was worried about her son’s future while grieving the loss of the three victims.
“Let the investigation take its course and let the law proceed in accordance with the law. I only wish that everything is handled fairly and that only the truth comes out,” she said.
The Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer issued Suhail a show-cause notice following a police recommendation to cancel his driving licence. He has been asked to respond within 14 days.
Suhail, 19, drove the car at more than 100 kmph under the influence of alcohol when it hit a scooter carrying three young people on the airport road at Nedumbassery in the early hours of October 11. The victims, including two women, were around 21 years old.
According to a police report submitted to the Angamaly Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Suhail’s blood sample contained 161 mg of alcohol per 100 ml, against the permissible limit of 30 mg per 100 ml under the Motor Vehicles Act. Police also reported that the car’s exhaust system had been modified to produce excessive noise.
Ninav, Ameer and Joel, who were travelling in the car, have also been arrested. A court dismissed the bail petitions of all four accused on Saturday. The investigation is continuing.
