Militants storm Kashmiri TV artist's house, kill her, injure her nephew

Srinagar: The 35-year-old social media influencer and a TV show host, Amreen Bhat, was shot dead allegedly by militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district Wednesday.

The Kashmir police said that the militants stormed her house before opening fire, in which a ten-year-old nephew of her has also been injured. Soon after the incident, she was shifted to a hospital, where it was declared she was brought dead.

"At around 1955 hours, terrorists fired upon one lady Amreen Bhat D/O Khazir Mohd Bhat R/O Hushroo Chadoora at her home. She was shifted to a hospital in injured condition, where doctors declared her dead. Her 10-year-old nephew who was also at home received a bullet injury in his arm," J&K Police said in a tweet.

The nephew of the woman, Farhan Zubair, also got injured in the incident, police said.

The area has been cordoned off, and a hunt launched to catch the attackers.

"Shocked and deeply saddened by the murderous militant attack… There can be no justification for attacking innocent women and children like this," former Chief Minister and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah tweeted responding to the incident.

"We strongly condemn the killing… dastardly act of senseless violence," the Sajad Lone-led Peoples Conference said.

This is the second targeted attack in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, a policeman was shot dead by terrorists outside his home in Srinagar.
