Mamata switched off lights & sat in dark during Modi's swear-in

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat in darkness, switching off all lights, when Narendra Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time, Rajya Sabha MP from TMC Sagarika Ghose said on X.

Ghose wrote on X, "To all those celebrating the "swearing-in" of @narendramodi, a message from India's only woman chief minister @MamataOfficial. She switched off all her lights and sat in darkness during the entire so called "ceremony" for a "prime minister" who has resoundingly lost the mandate and has been rejected by the people: Almost lost in Varanasi, lost in Ayodhya, could not get a majority in spite of a campaign centred entirely on himself. Modi should be replaced. Let the @BJP4India elect a fresh leader."

On Sunday, she said that she would not attend Modi's swearing-in ceremony, which took place in Rashtrapati Bhavan. She wrote on X, "The opposition does not accept the "moral legitimacy" of Modi being sworn in as the prime minister."

Mamata also had announced that she would boycott the ceremony. On June 8, she was asked whether she would attend it, and she replied that she had not received the invitation and she would not attend.

Following Ghose's post of Mamata spending the ceremony moment in darkness, many came in support as well as to criticize. One user @RigidDemocracy said, "Mamata Banerjee lost the assembly seat from her rival Shubhendu Adhikari, yet she became chief minister from the back door. Did she switch off the light and sit in darkness in her defeat ?? Sagarika ji, get your facts clear. Modi has won 240 seats alone, just 32 less than the majority."
