Kolkata: On the problematic statement by BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Suventhu Adhikari’s statement, of throwing Muslim MLAs to the road remark, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at him on Wednesday. The Trinamool Congress supremo accused Adhikari of importing a fake version of Hinduism to the state, which is against India’s pluralistic principles, The Telegraph reported.

Mamata, who was on an unscheduled visit to the assembly, backed a condemnation motion moved by a cabinet minister against Adhikari's problematic statement.

On Tuesday, Adhijari, the MLA  from Nandigram, said that BJP will defeat Mamata, Bimen Banerjee and their Muslim MLAs, who will emerge victorious. BJP will form a government in the state and throw the mentioned TMC leaders and their Muslim MLAs into the road, he said.

Mamata said that Adhikari imported a version of the Hindu religion that was neither endorsed by the Vedas nor sages. She questioned how he could deny the fundamental rights of Muslims. She asserted that what he was doing was fraud, importing fake Hinduism.

She said that India is a secular, pluralist, inclusive nation where everyone has the right to practise the religion of their choice. The duty of every majority in a secular democracy is to protect the minority.

However, Adhikari has not been present since he was suspended from the House.

Mamata further asked how can the BJP leader say that he will have Muslim lawmakers thrown out of the Assembly.

“How can they possibly dismiss 33 per cent of the population?” The Telegraph quoted her wondering.
