Lucknow man killed over interfaith relationship; woman’s brother, others arrested

Lucknow: A 26-year-old man in Lucknow’s Saadatganj was allegedly killed by the family of the woman he was in relationship with on Monday night.

The victim, Ali Abbas who worked as a delivery man was allegedly assaulted by the woman’s brother and his friends, The Indian Express reported.

The woman, who was from a different community, purportedly called the victim, Ali Abbas, to her home where he came under attack.

Her family was opposed to their relationship, according to the report citing the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Lucknow) Srivastava reportedly said murder had taken place over a ‘lover affair’ and added that three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Those arrested are identified as woman’s brother, Himalaya Prajapati (27), and his two neighbours and friends, Saurabh (24) and Sonu Kumar (30).

Station House Officer, Saadatganj police station, Santosh Kumar Arya said that the accused were sent to judicial custody.

The situation remains under control as heavy police force has been deployed in the area, according to officials.

Officials said that a team of police rushed to the spot after they received information that a man had been attacked with sticks in the Lakarmandi Hata area of Saadatganj on Monday night.

The man was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood with injuries to his head and body, according to the police.

Following his death at the hospital, the area became tense with police deploying additional forces to bring situation under control.

Ali had been in a relationship with the woman in his neighbourhood for the past four years and the woman’s family strongly opposed it.

Despite her family’s warning, the two continued to remain in touch.

Arif Jameer , the deceased’s father, alleged that the woman’s family called Ali to their home through her on the pretext of discussing their marriage.

About ten minutes after Ali left the home, his father received a call from the woman saying that her brother and his friends were assaulting Ali with sticks and stones.

By the time his family rushed to the spot, the accused had fled, according to the report.
