Local Hindus in Surat oppose allotment of houses to Muslim families

Surat: Objections have emerged from some Hindu residents of housing societies in Gujarat’s Surat over the reported allotment of more than 60 government-built homes to Muslim families, Siasat reported.

A meeting held on June 2 reportedly discussed concerns about the distribution of around 65 houses among non-Hindu beneficiaries out of a total of 190 units. Hindus, who attended the meeting, expressed opposition to an increase in the Muslim population within the housing project despite acknowledging existing peaceful coexistence. The remarks have drawn attention for reflecting resistance to Muslim families moving into the neighbourhood.
