New Delhi: Producer Leena Manimekalai appeared before Delhi Court through her counsel on Saturday in the case related to her documentary Kaali. A petition has sought to restrain her and her production house from depicting the Hindu Goddess Kaali in the way they did in a poster and video.
The council said Leena has not been supplied with a copy of the suit. The Civil Judge Abhishek Kumar of Tees Hazari Court directed to supply a copy of the suit to her. The petitioner's counsel sought to serve Leena and the production house via email and WhatsApp.
The next hearing is on February 7, 2023.
Earlier, the civil judge had said the relief of interim injunction is discretionary relief. The judge had said that the defendant needs to be heard before passing any order, reported NDTV.
The petitioner is seeking a permanent and mandatory injunction stating that the defendants depicted the Hindu Goddess Kali in an uncalled way. The poster of the film Kaali showed the Goddess smoking cigarettes. The council Raj Gaurav said the poster hurts religious sentiments and it is also against the basics of morality and decency.
