Law should not be used selectively and without justification: Opposition to President

Several Opposition leaders in a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu alleged that the Modi government is "misusing" central agencies against political opponents.

In the letter shared on Twitter, leaders of the Congress, AAP, RJD, and CPI-M among others said the law is the law and it must be enforced without fear or favour. "It cannot be used, as it is presently being done, arbitrarily, selectively, and without any justification against prominent leaders of Opposition parties."

The letter was shared when Congress President Sonia Gandhi is being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case. Congress MPs including Rahul Gandhi were detained for protesting against the same.

The letter also slammed the stalemate monsoon session of Parliament and blamed the Centre's stubbornness for it. They wrote the ruling government has stubbornly refused to have an urgent debate on the pressing issue of price hikes and GST rates on essential items.

The Opposition leaders alleged that the BJP-led government's sole aim is to "weaken the forces fighting the BJP ideologically and politically." They further said the strategy is to divert the attention of the people from most urgent day-to-day concerns like price hikes, unemployment, loss of livelihoods, insecurity of life, and lack of liberty.
