Mumbai: After the pointy statement by Maharashtra NavnirmanSena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray that loudspeakers from mosques must be removed, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut responded to him harshly that Maharashtra is a state where the law of the country rules, Asian News International reported.
On Saturday, Raj Thackeray had demanded the state government remove the loudspeakers from mosques. He warned of installing loudspeakers in front of mosques and 'Hanuman Chalisa' being played. According to Raj Thackeray's claims, the BJP ruled states have stopped the 'Azaan' and have removed loudspeakers from all mosques.
Raut, while talking to media on Sunday, asked which all BJP rulers states have banned Azaan or removed loudspeakers.
Raut said people thought that Raj Thackeray's event at Shivaji Park on Saturday was BJP's. The law of land prevails in Maharashtra, and the state Home Minister will do everything as per law to ensure law and order, he said.
Raj Thackeray had said that he was not against prayers and that people should do their prayers at home.
He had further appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raid the mosques in the Muslim areas in Mumbai. He alleged that these mosques were hosting 'Pakistani supporters'.
Later he accused the NCP chief Sharad Pawar of giving rise to casteist politics in Maharashtra after his party formed in 1999.
