Lakshadweep, one Monday, reported its first COVID-19 positive case. A non-resident of the island and part of the Indian Reserve Battalion who travelled to Kavaratty from Kochi on January 3rd is the first Covid positive case recorded in the otherwise Covid-free islands.
Two weeks ago, the administration revised the Standard Operating Procedures and discontinued mandatory quarantine for those travelling from Kochi. The administration announced that people could visit the island from the mainland with a negative RT-PCR report done within 48 hours of travel.
While everyone who came into contact with the infected man has been instructed to go into quarantine, the samples of his primary contacts have been sent for testing, officials reported.
