Former Chief Minister and Congress Leader Siddaramaiah (Left) and Former CM of Karnataka and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy

Kumaraswamy states that coalition with Congress ruined his reputation; Siddaramaiah rubbished his claims

Mysuru: Former CM of Karnataka and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy stated on Saturday that forming a coalition with the Congress in 2018 had made him lose the goodwill of the people he had cultivated over his political career.

In a press conference in Mysuru, Kumaraswamy flung accusations and the Congress and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He said that he should not have joined hands with the Congress, and it was only at his father and prominent member of JD(S), DeveGowda's insistence that he did so.

He stated that he would have been Chief Minister for his term of five years if he had allied with the BJP instead and accused former CM Siddaramaiah of trapping him and destroying his reputation.

According to Kumaraswamy, the 'betrayal' of Congress hurt his reputation more than the 2006 power struggle with the BJP that led to him stepping down as Chief Minister.

In a series of tweets, Siddaramaiah rubbished his claims and said that they were 'ridiculous'. He also stated that there was no question of 'trapping' him when he was given the post of Chief Mister when the JD(S) had 37 seats.
