K'taka: Pregnant woman killed in honour attack over inter-caste marriage

Hubballi: A pregnant woman died at a private hospital here after she was allegedly attacked by members of her parental family over her inter-caste marriage, police said on Monday.

Three persons, including the victim’s father, have been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on Sunday evening in Inam-Veerapur village of Hubballi Rural taluk.

The woman, aged around 20 and six months pregnant, sustained grievous injuries after being allegedly assaulted with a pipe and agricultural implements. She succumbed to her injuries late on Sunday night, police said.

According to the police, the woman had married a man from a different caste in May, despite strong opposition from her family. Fearing for their safety, the couple had been living in Haveri and returned to the village earlier this month.

Investigators said the woman’s family members initially attempted to attack her husband and father-in-law while they were working in their agricultural field on Sunday. However, they managed to escape.

The accused then allegedly entered the victim’s house and assaulted the woman, along with another woman and a man present there.

The injured woman was rushed to a private hospital, where she later died.

A case has been registered at the Hubballi Rural Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
