Kolkata: Uttar Pradesh Police, with Kolkata force help, arrested Ranjit Singh in east Kolkata's Tangra area, 11 years after he allegedly abducted a minor girl from Ghaziabad's Khoda Colony, sexually assaulted her, and fled to the city with her.
The duo married in 2015, had a child now in school, and the woman has since reached adulthood. Her family filed a POCSO case at Khoda Police Station back then, but Singh dodged summons, claiming a happy family life and her consent.
Despite tips that he was in Maharashtra or southern India, phone records pinpointed him in Kolkata. Ghaziabad court issued a warrant; UP cops raided Tangra recently and nabbed him. He's now in transit remand to UP.
Kolkata Police advised surrender at Ghaziabad court with his wife to possibly seek relief via her testimony on their marriage. The law still views him as a fugitive on kidnapping and minor assault charges.
