Police in Kerala have filed a UAPA case against a mother and stepfather accused of trying to draw their 16-year-old son into ISIS ideology.
The case was registered at the Venjaramoodu Police Station after the teenager’s family reported concerns about suspected radicalisation.
Police said the woman, originally from Pathanamthitta, had converted to Islam. She later married a man from Vembayam. The couple had been living in the UK for some time.
According to officers, the boy visited them in the UK. During this visit, they allegedly showed him videos and attempted to lure him towards ISIS. The family raised an alert after noticing changes in his behaviour.
When the couple returned to Kerala, they admitted the boy to a religious study centre in Attingal. Teachers at the centre noticed a sudden shift in his behaviour. They informed the woman’s relatives, who then approached the police.
The Attingal Deputy Superintendent of Police is leading the investigation under the UAPA. The NIA has also started gathering preliminary information. Senior officials, including the Thiruvananthapuram Rural Superintendent of Police and the Anti-Terror Squad, are closely monitoring the case.
Police said all aspects are being examined. Officers are verifying the credibility of the allegations. They are also checking if the biological father, who is seeking custody of the boy, has any role in the claims. Another angle being probed is whether the couple had links to an accused person in an earlier NIA case.
