Karnataka announces two-week lockdown from May 10

BS Yediyurappa government on Friday announced a two-week lockdown from 6 AM on May 10 to 6 AM on May 25, given the surge of COVID-19 cases in the state.

The movement of essential goods and services are allowed, and groceries can remain open from 6 AM to 6 PM. Take away/ home delivery shall continue to be allowed while schools, colleges, metros, hotels, restaurants, cinema halls, sports complexes, places of worship, and commercial units not directly related to providing essential services shall remain shut. All health services and pre-scheduled flights and trains shall continue to operate during the lockdown, the order read.

In the last 24 hours, the state reported 48,781 fresh cases and 592 deaths. In Bengaluru, which reported over 21,000 cases in the last 24 hours, the positivity rate is 40 per cent.
