Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday of showing favouritism towards the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“They are showing their loyalty towards the BJP and saying that we are scheduling elections in seven phases so that the army of campaigners and resources that you (the BJP) have can use it accordingly" Sibal said.
Regarding the impending assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that transforming a state into a Union territory and subsequently failing to conduct polls would be considered "unconstitutional."
He also claimed that there would be no elections in J&K as per the Hindustan Times report.
On Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir would take place "shortly after the Lok Sabha elections" because of security concerns, as holding both events simultaneously was deemed impractical.
