Bengaluru: Kannada film actor Nagabhushana NS was arrested on Saturday after his car allegedly rammed into a couple near Konakunte Cross in Bengaluru, leading to the death of the woman.
Prema, 48, a homemaker and her 58-year-old husband Krishna, both critically injured after the speeding SUV hit them, were rushed to a private hospital in the city.
While Prema succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital, her husband Krishna is being treated in an Intensive Care Unit. He continues to be critical.
The actor was released on station bail late into the night.
According to the police, around 9.45 pm on Saturday, Nagabhushana was heading to his residence in JP Nagar after attending an event in RR Nagar.
He was driving his car from Uttarahalli towards Konanakunte Cross allegedly in a negligent manner when the car rammed into the couple before hitting an electric pole.
Nagabhushana then took them to the hospital in an autorickshaw. A police officer said that by the time they reached the hospital, the woman succumbed to the injuries.
The couple were on their evening walk when the accused mowed them down.
The couple’s son has filed a complaint alleging that Nagabhushana’s car knocked down his parents as they were taking a walk on a footpath after dinner.
However, Nagabhushana, in his statement to the police, said the man and his wife abruptly moved from the footpath to the road, causing the accident.
The Kumaraswamy layout traffic police rushed to the spot, arrested the Nagabhushana and seized the car for further investigation. According to the sources, the alcometer test cleared him and he was not drunk while driving.
Nagabhushana is known for his recent comic roles in Kannada films. He made his debut with the film Badmaash in 2016, after a short successful stint in YouTube with a comedy channel Karnataka Entertainment Board.
He started in a lead role in the film Ikkat, which was a success. He also wrote and starred in a Kannada Telugu webseries Honeymoon.
