New Delhi: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to questions regarding Khalistani extremism and foreign interference at the G20 summit.
He acknowledged discussing both issues multiple times with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the years.
Trudeau emphasised Canada's commitment to defending freedom of expression, conscience, and peaceful protest while simultaneously preventing violence and opposing hatred. He highlighted that it's important to recognise that the actions of a few individuals do not represent the entire community or Canada as a whole.
He also underlined the significance of respecting the rule of law and addressing foreign interference.
The Canadian Prime Minister's remarks came after a meeting with Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. PM Modi later shared the news of their meeting on social media, stating that they discussed various aspects of India-Canada relations across different sectors.
Canada has faced instances of Khalistani activities in recent years, including protests, parades celebrating the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, threats to Indian diplomats, and vandalism of temples marked with anti-India graffiti.
