Srinagar: A case has been filed against the organisers and participants of a procession in Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, for allegedly creating a law-and-order situation by raising objectionable slogans.
A case has been registered against the organisers and participants of a Youm-e-Quds procession held in Sonpah village, Beerwah, within the central Kashmir district, according to a police spokesperson.
Youm-e-Quds, also known as Quds Day or International Quds Day, is an annual event held globally to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people and express support for their rights. Observed on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, this pro-Palestine event aims to raise awareness about the Palestinian struggle and condemn Israeli occupation.
The police spokesperson said during the procession, a large crowd gathered under the directions of the organisers and raised objectionable slogans.
The spokesperson further stated that through their sloganeering, the organisers attempted to disrupt the law-and-order situation and blocked the Sonpah-Beerwah road, thereby causing public obstruction.
The spokesperson said police took cognisance of the incident and registered a case under sections 126(2) and 189(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Beerwah police station.
The police spokesperson stated that further investigation into the matter is ongoing, and necessary legal action will be taken against those found responsible. Additionally, the police have appealed to the public to maintain peace and harmony and to refrain from engaging in any activities that could disrupt public order.
