JIH president Syed Sadatullah pays tribute to Dr Manmohan Singh, urges leaders to emulate him

Syed Sadatullah Husaini, the President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), expressed his heartfelt condolences at the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, acknowledging him as the architect of India’s economic transformation and a leader who introduced several revolutionary reforms.

Dr. Singh, who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014, was remembered for his contributions to the nation's growth and his unwavering commitment to inclusive policies.

In his tribute, Husaini highlighted Dr. Singh’s role in the introduction of significant legislation such as the Right to Information, Right to Education, Right to Food, and Right to Work, all of which have had a profound impact on the lives of millions of Indians.

Despite his pro-market stance, Husaini noted that Dr. Singh also implemented pro-poor welfare schemes, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), the restructuring of the Public Distribution System (PDS), and the expansion of the midday meal scheme, which have helped uplift the marginalized sections of society.

Dr. Singh was described as a leader with exemplary humility and politeness, who never sought to boast about his significant academic and professional achievements. Husaini emphasized that these qualities made Dr. Singh stand out as a politician who was deeply committed to public service.

The JIH President also praised Dr. Singh for his secular leadership and concern for the welfare of the marginalized and religious minorities. Husaini pointed to the creation of the Justice Sachar Committee during Dr. Singh's tenure, which produced a landmark report on the socio-economic conditions of the Muslim community in India.

In a time when political leadership is often marred by divisions, Husaini called on current politicians to emulate the qualities of honesty, respect for institutions, humility, inclusiveness, and the ability to build consensus—qualities that Dr. Singh embodied throughout his career.

Husaini concluded by stating that Dr. Singh's legacy would continue to inspire future generations, urging leaders to uphold the values of honesty, integrity, and dedication to the people of India, irrespective of caste or creed.
