Guwahati: Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) topper of Assam has been arrested along with his father for using a proxy in the JEE exam. The accused had scored 99.8 per cent in India's foremost engineering entrance exam.
The candidate, Neel Nakshatra Das, his father, Dr Jyotirmoy Das, and three accomplices Hemendra Nath Sarma, Pranjal Kalita and Hirukamal Pathak, employees of the testing centre have been arrested. The FIR is registered in Azara police station. All the accused will be produced in a local court on Thursday.
"A proxy was used by the candidate through the help of another agency that acted as a middleman," said, Guwahati Police Commissioner MP Gupta.
The Assam Police have informed the National Testing Agency (NTA) about the incident. The police suspect more people involved in the exam scam, including the private coaching centre and the invigilator. The special investigation team has taken charge of further enquiry.
According to reports, Mitradev Sharma filed a complaint. After a phone call, recording and WhatsApp chat, screenshot went viral in which Das allegedly discloses that he has used unfair methods to score marks.
