Jamnagar airport got 12 days international status for Ambani wedding: RTI

New Delhi: Airports Authority of India (AAI) replied to an RTI query that Jamnagar airport in Gujarat was given the status of international airport for 12 days during the pre-wedding celebrations of billionaire Anant Ambani, The News Minute reported. 

Activist Ajay Bose has received further details for his RTI query that the ceremony between February 25 and March 6 a total of 524 flights – both domestic and international – flew in and out of the Jamnagar airport.

However, AAI did not share details of expenditure incurred to set up set up customs, immigration, and quarantine facilities in the airport.

Jamnagar airport, nevertheless a defence airport, was turned into an international airport to facilitate the travel of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Fink, Ivanka Trump, and others.

Celebrities including popstar Rihanna, magician David Blaine, and Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan performed at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, In order to welcome guests for the wedding AAI erected a passenger terminal at the airport and the Indian Air Force allowed airport staff to access its sensitive ‘technical areas’, The News Minute reported citing The Hindu.

Alongside, AAI also expanded its passenger building from 475 sq m to 900 sq m in order to accommodate 360 passengers at the time, according the report.
