She pleaded for ICU bed but young Jamia Professor succumbed to COVID

Nabila Sadiq, the 38-year-old Assistant Professor at Jamia Millia Islamia's Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women's Studies, died on Monday night, after testing positive for Covid-19. She was said to have pleaded for an ICU facility after her condition turned worse. 

"Any ICU bed leads? For myself " she Tweeted on May 4. 

As per the reports, Nabila was admitted to Al Shifa Hospital in Abul Fazal Enclave, Jamia Nagar, on May 5. However, 10 days before her death, she was shifted to Fortis Faridabad hospital where she was put on a ventilator. 

Her mother Nuzhat (76) had also died of Covid-related complications, 10 days before her death. Her father, who is a retired Professor from JNU was also hospitalised for Covid but got discharged. 

 A message doing the rounds on social media and forwarded by Jamia Teachers Association (JTA) president Professor Majid Jamil, reads: "We lost crucial 4-5 hours when her oxygen level started to dip. The number of calls to hospitals, doctor friends was of no use because they reached saturation point. Ultimately, Dr Raihan of Kalindi Hospital allowed her in an emergency, shifted to Alshifa subsequent day. In the meantime, her mother condition deteriorated and she passed away after three days. A Covid recovered student Waquar, their driver and one Farid Khan took her, and family, best care."

Dr Nabila Sadiq after completing her PhD from the School of International Studies, JNU, was teaching in Jamia Millia Islamia. Before joining Jamia, she had also taught graduate students at DU.
