Chennai: Following actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Iftar party here recently, the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath filed a police complaint against him alleging that Muslims were insulted in the event after inviting drunkards and hooligans to the party, The Indian Express reported.

Vijay attended the party after observing a fast on the day and attended it wearing a skull cap. He broke the fast and prayed along with many Muslims who attended the party, and all these were widely filmed and shared on social media.

Member of the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, Syed Ghouse, said that,

Muslims were insulted at the event because many of them who attended the occasion were drunkards and hooligans. Having such people attend the pious event is an insult to Muslims who religiously follow the rules of Ramadan, Ghouse claimed.

It is a shame that Vijay hasn’t even tendered an apology for the inconveniences that occurred at the event, he claimed.

During the launch of Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He claimed that during the political launch of the party, people and their emotions were not respected as human beings but treated as cattle.

He continued that there were non-local bouncers who were treating people with no respect. He claimed that the complaint was filed to ensure that such developments never happen in events linked to Vijay in the future. He finally claimed that the organization wanted to register that it did not turn in the complaint as a publicity stunt.

It was on Friday last week that Vijay hosted the iftar party, which was attended by thousands, at the YMCA grounds in Royalpetta, Chennai.

Representatives from 15 mosques participated in the event, and more than 3000 people attended. Vijay is all set to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Reports say that he has decided to contest the elections independently without forming an alliance with the AIADMK.
