Insult of Prophet: More Muslim countries reject, condemn statements

New Delhi: More countries have come to the fore condemning the derogatory statements about Prophet Muhammed issued by suspended BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal.

The countries included Indonesia, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Afghanistan and Pakistan. They reiterated that respecting all religious beliefs are very important.

In addition to Saudi Arabian administration's condemnation, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah expressed their strong displeasure over the controversial statements.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) denounced the statements through a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. It underscored the need for respecting religious symbols. Indonesia said that it strongly condemned the remarks and added that the same was intimated to the Indian Ambassador in Jakarta. Jordan was the next to express displeasure over smearing the Prophet. The GCC, the 57 membered Islamic organisation along with Pakistan, condemned the leader's speeches. Pakistan summoned Indian chargé d'affaires to express its categorical rejection of the problematic statements.

Meanwhile, in India, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party accused BJP of defaming India internationally. The Left asserted that BJP was nothing but "forced to act" and suspend Sharma and Jindal to save its own face. CPI(M) said in a tweet, "condemn Isolate Defeat them Save India." Congress had earlier demanded the arrest of the duo.
