Indian defence secrets leaked to Pakistan; 2nd person held in Assam
Guwahati: The Assam Police Special Task Force has arrested a Bihar native in Guwahati for allegedly passing highly sensitive information linked to India’s defence establishment to a Pakistani intelligence operative, exposing another suspected link in a wider espionage network, NDTV reported.
The arrested man has been identified as Ritesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Bihar. His arrest marks the second arrest by Assam Police in a case involving the alleged leakage of strategic Indian defence and security information to Pakistani agents.
Investigators suspect that Singh was part of a network involved in obtaining and transmitting sensitive information concerning the movements and activities of the Indian Army and security agencies. His arrest came during an ongoing investigation into the alleged network and its links with Pakistani intelligence operatives.
The case has also brought renewed attention to attempts by Pakistani intelligence agencies to target defence personnel as well as civilians. According to intelligence inputs cited in the investigation, operatives have allegedly attempted to extract sensitive information by using honey traps and financial inducements.
During Singh’s arrest, investigators recovered smartphones and digital material believed to be relevant to the case. The devices and documents have been sent for detailed forensic examination as authorities attempt to establish the nature and extent of the alleged communications.
Central and state agencies are jointly investigating whether other individuals maintained contact with Pakistani agents through social media and other channels in ways that could compromise Indian security.
Investigators are expected to seek Singh’s custody after producing him before a court for further questioning. Police officials have indicated that more arrests could follow as the probe expands into the suspected espionage network and its wider links.
