India will host a meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and senior security officials on June 22 and 23, with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval set to chair the discussions, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday.
The meeting will bring together security representatives from BRICS member countries, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.
According to the MEA, the discussions will focus on the theme "Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today". Delegates are expected to examine the evolving national security landscape, including challenges arising from emerging technologies and new forms of security threats.
The participants will also review the outcomes of recent BRICS Joint Working Group meetings on counter-terrorism and security in the use of information and communication technologies.
In a post on X, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said the Chinese delegation would exchange views with other BRICS members on the international security situation, major regional and global issues, and responses to both conventional and non-conventional security challenges. He said the discussions would also help prepare for the BRICS Summit scheduled for September.
The meeting is expected to serve as an important step towards the summit, which India will host later this year as the current chair of the grouping.
India is holding the BRICS presidency for the fourth time after previously chairing the bloc in 2012, 2016, and 2021. New Delhi's theme for its presidency is "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability".
BRICS currently comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The grouping serves as a platform for cooperation and dialogue on economic, geopolitical, and security issues among major emerging economies.
