India reports 34,457 daily new Covid-19 cases, 375 deaths in the last 24 hours

India's Covid chart continued to show improvement today, with the country recording 34,457 cases, a marginal drop from yesterday. About 375 deaths were recorded during the period, according to the Health Ministry. 

Total recoveries were at 3,15,97,982 across the country, while active cases stood at 3,61,340. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 2,265.

Among all the states, Kerala reported the highest Covid-19 cases at 20,224 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 4,365 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,668 cases, Karnataka with 1,453 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 1,435 cases.

These five states accounted for 84.58 per cent of the daily new cases reported on Sunday, with Kerala alone responsible for 58.69 per cent of the fresh infections.

On Saturday, 375 Covid-related fatalities were recorded. Maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (105), followed by Kerala with 99 deaths in the last 24 hours.

No death due to COVID-19 was recorded in Delhi on Friday, while 57 fresh cases were reported with a positivity rate of 0.08 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department. This is the eleventh time since the starting of the second wave of the pandemic in the national capital that zero deaths have been logged in a day.

Meanwhile, India's drug regulator on Friday approved Zydus Cadila's three-dose COVID-19 DNA vaccine for emergency use in adults and children aged 12 years and above, bringing in the sixth vaccine authorised for use in the country.

India conducted 17,21,205 tests during the previous day, according to the Health Ministry data.

A total of 36,36,043 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 57,61,17,350.
