New Delhi: India recorded 42,766 number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Saturday, pushing the total tally of cases to 3,07,95,716.
In the previous 24 hours 1,206 people also succumed to the viral infection, and the overall death toll now stands at 407,145, according to the Union health ministry's dashboard updated at 8am.
Saturday's tally marks a decrease over the 43,393 cases the country had recorded on Friday, and 45,892 cases on Wednesday. The number of fatalities recorded on Saturday also went up.
This is the 32nd consecutive day when India reported less than one lakh new coronavirus cases.
The active cases have now come down below 5 lakh. The country has 4,55,033 active cases presently and has witnessed a total of 4,07,145 deaths so far.
Meanwhile, the health ministry said on Friday that than half of country's total Covid-19 cases are from two states -- Maharashtra and Kerala -- adding that the second wave is not completely gone yet.
The health ministry added that 14 districts in Kerala and 15 in Maharashtra are of concern.
Health ministry joint secretary Lav Agarwal, during a press conference on the Covid-19 situation in the country also stressed that Covid norms should not be flouted as the virus is still very much there.
He also informed that the daily new cases in the country continue to show a decline. There has been a decline of 8 per cent in average daily new cases in the last week, Lav Agarwal said. He added that 80 per cent of the new cases are from 90 districts.
According to the Union Health Ministry, a total of 45,254 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,99,33,538 till date.
The Ministry said that a total of 37,21,96,268 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 30,55,802 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 42,90,41,970 samples have been tested up to July 9 for Covid-19. Of these 19,55,225 samples were tested on Friday.
On July 6, India recorded 553 deaths -- lowest since April 6. This was after on May 23, India saw record fatalities with 4,454 deaths in 24 hours at the peak of the second wave.
The first death in the country due to the pandemic was reported in March 2020.
