India fared well in current global crises: Union Fuel minister

New Delhi: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, said that India had fared well amid the global crises on energy, food and fuel, IANS reported.

Speaking at the 25th Energy Technology Meet in Mumbai on Thursday, the minister said that though there are various challenges due to the current global setting, India is full on with net zero. The country is committed to moving away from the world of hydrocarbons to a world where green and sustainable energy satisfies its needs.

Puri further said that the country's per capita energy consumption is one-third of the global average now and will surpass it in the years to come.

"India is on a path to become a $10 trillion economy in 2030 and third largest economy in the world by 2047, and therefore, there is a growing need to change the energy mix," Puri said.

He underscored that the Centre is resolved not to let anything weaken the country's commitments toward green transition.

Puri told the media, "By May 2022, India had already attained 10 per cent biofuel blending and is now on course to reach the 20 per cent mark in a year or two."
